NESO leads stir, students hit the street in protest

against Centre’s apathy

ITANAGAR, Mar 25:  Along with rest of the north-east states, hundreds of student led by All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today hit the street  here to join the  NESO sponsored one-day sit-in protest dharna in front of Raj Bhawan here to protest against New-Delhi’s apathy towards the NE region.

The peace rally organized by AAPSU in its solidarity to NESO in their fighting for socio-economic and political rights of the region was started from Legi Complex and culminated at Raj Bhawan.  The students from various north-east states, studying at North-East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) also took part in the rally.

Anger  was clearly seen on every activist’s face as they shouted, “Go back Bangladeshi” Repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Acts of 1958 and “we are Indian don’t treat us like foreigner, we need equal treatment.”  Apparently the entire north-east region was expressing displeasure over Centre’s apathy as similar protest rally was simultaneously organized in eight states including Sikkim.

The apex students’ organization have sent clear message to the Center to change its attitude towards the region. In its representation to Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh which was submitted through the governor of the respective states NESO reiterated its earlier demands to Center to set up a Special Education Commission for the region in order to assess the state education in the north-east. It said that educational policy should be relevant for the people of region taking consideration to cultural heritage, language and history.  

The organization also demanded for repealing of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Acts of 1958, terming the act is one of most draconian legislation that Indian Parliament has passed in its 54 years of parliament history.  Further NESO gave its tough stand on illegal migrants or Bangladeshi in the region saying that the region cannot be grazing land of illegal migrants. It also demanded for special constitutional status and employment policy for the north-east states. NESO also demanded government of India to resolve the stapled visa imposed by China to people of   Arunachal Pradesh to ensure that people of the state travel to any parts of the world. Speaking to this correspondent over the telephone NESO Advisor Dr. Samujjwal Bhattacharjya said, “We have resentment over the government of India’s attitude towards the North-East state”. Dr. Bhattacharjya alleged that New-Delhi’s attention is confined upto Kolkata, and ignored NE states. He further said the entire region would stand united to fight for equal status and treatment in terms of development and policy.  “Though we (NE people) are politically divided we will unite to fight for one cause” said NESO advisor. He also sought cooperation and support from the government of eight north-east states in its fight for cause of the region. NESO Chief Coordinator Pritam Sonam said that agitation and protest will continue till the demands are met.

 

 

Arunachal Film Festival: A festival with difference

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: The first ever Arunachal Film Festival organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations concluded here today with a brain storming interactive session among  the film makers including Producers, Directors, technicians and artists at the sidelines of the film festival to discuss modalities for development of film production in the state.

During the interaction, the film fraternity appreciated the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for its novel initiative. Terming the festival as ‘momentous and historical’, the fraternity also welcomed the state Chief Minister Nabam Tuki’s commitment to set up a State Film Corporation and expressed that such positive action can support the film community to grow and take state’s culture to the world audience through cinema.

Welcoming the move, the film makers also expressed hope that the structure and management of the proposed corporation should be carried out in a well-thought out and professional manner and set up a working group to support and suggest the government in this regard.

The film community further expressed their gratitude to the Department of Information & Public Relations led by Secretary Indra Mallo Jain for organizing the film festival and termed it to be a truly historic initiative, the impact of which would be appreciated by generations.   

Earlier, during the formal valedictory function held at Siddhartha hall yesterday, Chief Information Commissioner and renowned author Y D Thongchi while attending the programme encouraged the film makers to explore in their chosen field with perseverance and determination towards making quality films depicting the various facets of the tribal society of the state.

Emphasizing on making quality films, Thongchi stated, ‘a good film can be watched again and again like a good book can be read again and again.’ He said that film making is a team effort of the entire unit and called upon the film fraternity of all categories to contribute their best towards making technically sound film of high repute having social values to make a place in the main stream cinema.  This would expose and promote the rich culture and high social values of the various indigenous tribes of the state besides promoting the local talents. He also advised the film makers to produce their film in local dialects to maintain the originality.

Highlighting on the significance of regional film production, he spoke about renowned film directors like Satyajit Ray, Jahnu Barua and others who produced many high quality regional films and are counted as best directors in the film industry and called upon the film directors to shoulder their responsibility with sincerity and dedication. On the occasion, Thongchi requested TC Teli, former minister and producer, who was present on the occasion to invest in construction of a multiplex cinema hall with a provision of a separate theatre for screening Arunachal Films produced by local producers. This would be a great contribution towards the film fraternity, he added.

In his speech, former minister TC Teli stressed on preservation and documentation of state’s culture through films. “Let Arunachal Pradesh be exposed to outside world”, he said.

Praising the film makers for their untiring efforts towards making films, Teli, who was the producer of some local Tele films, expressed his desire to sponsor more films in future.

Senior Film Maker, Taro Chatung in his brief speech said that ‘it is like a dream come true’ and hoped that the Arunachal Film festival would go a long way in facilitating the upcoming film makers. Appreciating the initiatives of the department of Information and Public Relations, he said, this would give fillip to the film production in the state.

Earlier, D. K Thungon, Director of film ‘Leh’ and Ahsan Muzid, Director of film ‘Sonam’ shared their experiences in film direction. While Thungon highlighted the immense responsibility of a director in making a film success, Muzid spoke on the trial and hard work put in making his film ‘Sonam’ which took a long twelve years to complete. Thungon further added that as film making involves lots of personalities, there is scope for vast employment avenues which could later generate state’s revenue in future.

On the occasion, Director IPR Leki Phuntso presented a brief report on the first ever Arunachal Film festival. He said that the objective of the festival is to facilitate a common platform to both seasoned and budding film makers and other film personalities to interact and exchange creative ideas, besides giving them logistic support for further promotion and development of the film making in the state. He also gave a brief outline of the state’s first feature film ‘Mera Dharam Meri Maa’ produced by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The 3-day film festival which was extended to one more day showcased various films and documentary productions by both enterprising individuals and government agencies which were well received and enjoyed by the audiences.  Various films including Mera Dharam Meri Maa, Leh, Sonam, Dr Abo, Ane Ge Nyode, Fighter, Tele film Oyaa and documentaries like - When the mist is lifted, Vision & Dream on Everester Tapi Mra and Eminent Personalities - Mamang Dai, Lummer Dai, Kuru Hassang and Dr Tamo Mibang, besides Rajdhani ki ser, a documentary on state’s capital were screened during the four day event. Unthinkable change due to CMLMS: Sena

NAMPONG, Mar 25:  “It is unexpected that our youth disinterested in work have started working of their own after undergoing month-long training at the maiden CM’s Livelihood Mission School here,” said Agri-Horti, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development Minister Setong Sena.

Because of unavoidable hitches, the functioning of the pilot project which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in presence of National Youth Project director Dr SN Subba Rao on October 18 last, began in December and the classes formally started from February 1 last with two experienced faculty members.

“I never expected that the training could change the attitude of the youth so soon to learn to earn which could make them self-reliant and independent. The CMLMS has turned out to be a great ray of hope in tackling the increasing unemployment problem of the state,” said a visibly happy Sena, after inspecting the school and activities of the trainees few days ago.

The activities include self-financed poultry firm started by three trainees, vegetable cultivation by nine others while all the 42 trainees, including 23 girls were given practical demonstration on a regular basis by the faculty members besides taking them to on trips for practical knowledge.

Sena was instrumental in setting up of the school after the visit of a high level team to Sikkim at the initiative of the National Youth Project. While Sikkim from an importer of poultry products and vegetables became exporter within 30 months by taking up backyard poultry and kitchen garden schemes. The Melli Dara gram panchayat with a population of 6,333 earns Rs 4 crore annually from backyard poultry alone as witnessed by the Sena-led team. The CMLMS trainees would get ready market for their products as Jairampur sub-division has been importing huge quantity poultry products and vegetables from Assam’s Tinsukia district for meeting the requirements of its population besides large number of security personnel based there, Sena reasoned. He said it would add to the GoAP’s efforts in creating employment and the planners keeping record may take note of it.

The CMLMS funded by Sena from his MLALAD fund aims at providing free training to youth in the age group of 18 to 30 in two of the 18 trades identified by the NYP, presently running the school.

 

 

DHS, APDA reach out to villagers

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: A multi-specialty Health Mela was organized by the DHS (District Health Society) in collaboration with East Siang wing of Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association (APDA) this morning at the Balek Government Secondary School covering including adjoining population in which curative services for specialties was provided under one umbrella.

Intensive information, education and communication activities were carried out in the form of posters, pamphlets and announcements in the area, two days prior to the Mela and good number of patients were examined by the experts and free pathological tests, X-ray etc were done and free medicines were distributed to the patients during the day.

The Mela was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra in presence of JDHS Dr. Kabang Lego, MS Dr. Onik Moyong, DMO Dr. M Perme, DRCHO Dr. T Gao a team of doctors of General Hospital, Pasighat and local leaders and villagers.

DC Mishra while appreciating the doctors said medical profession is not only a noblest profession, it also gives an opportunity to serve the people, which can also lead to the highest spiritual goal of life. They must work for the society selflessly, he added. The DC advised the villagers to avail optimum benefit of the Mela and further assured to provide one portable Ultrasound machine and also Physiotherapy facilities soon.

Dr. Mandip Perme DMO informed that the motive of the Mela was to educate people about the effective services available with the service providers and also to provide people free quality health care services, with essential diagnostic tests and medicines at the doorsteps.

A team of specialists from various departments like Medicine, Surgery, Eye, ENT, Orthopedic, Skin, Dental, Tuberculosis, Gynecology, Homeopathy etc of General Hospital, Pasighat enthusiastically participated and extended their services to the poor patients through the Mela. On the occasion awareness program on detecting sex ratio, Community campaign on School Health (SHP), Reproductive Tract Infection (RTI) and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) were also conducted. LDV DC surprises his officers with a visit

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: The Deputy Commissioner of Lower Dibang Valley District, Shiv Kumar, taking time out from his busy official work today made a surprise inspection of the Shantipur Checkgate and Border Facilitation Counter (BFC) at Meka Tin-Ali. He was accompanied by Jally Umpo, CO (Hq) cum Town Magistrate.

On his way to Shantipur Check Gate, DC was annoyed to find that some Non-APST persons were travelling without ILP in a passenger utility car which was going towards Roing town. He directed OC in charge of Shantipur Check Gate to strictly carry out checking and do not allow any outsider without ILP to enter into the district. He informed that a CCTV camera would be installed at the Shantipur Check Gate soon in order to keep records of the vehicle going in and out of the district and other activities of the check gate. He also instructed the police personnel’s at the check gate not to allow any vehicle without carriage permit to enter into the district.

However, Police Personnel’s while apprising the Deputy Commissioner about practical problems in the border area told that the border line between the two neighbouring states are porous in many locations from where many outsiders can easily enter into the district without ILP and “until and unless border areas are sealed by walls, people will continue to come in to the district without being caught by them.”  The Deputy Commissioner also made inspection of the Border Facilitation Counter (BFC) at Meka Tin Ali that was temporarily shifted from Shantipur Check Gate as many heavy vehicles preferred to come via Alu-Bari Ghat through Bismatnagar-Koronu Road (along under construction Trans-Arunachal Highway NH-52) which meets Shantipur-Roing (NH-37) road at Meka Tin-Ali. He checked the daily register of the plying vehicles and the entry tax realized by the tax & excise department. He asked the Inspector of Tax & Excise, Nini Passing who was present during the inspection to collect the Entry Tax at the time of the arrival. He also directed them to realized Tax in Advanced from the Registered Firms that are supposed to bring taxable items and to avoid any kind of delay tactics. He urged them to enhance their revenue generation. He also asked the department to keep BFC, Shantipur open 24 hours by deploying atleast two constables there.

Inspector (T & E) Nini Passing, apprised the DC regarding some local problems in realising entry tax and said, “We are encouraged by the visit of DC on the spot” and added that the department can perform better if more security are provided to them.  (DIPRO)  

 

 

Army locates US warplane wreckage at Lulam Gika mountains

SEPPA. Mar 25: An army patrol team led by Major Arun Kumar Tiwari of unit based at Tenga valley, conducted a week-long patrolling on foot in one of the unexplored, hilly treacherous terrain of East Kameng district from March 16.  The Army team under 5  Mountain Division consists of two captains, fifteen Jawans and twenty porters and was guided by Tani Bagang, JT and  successfully returned to base safely at Chayangtajo Administrative HQ. On March 21, the Indian Army Patrol could locate the crashed site and conducted the massive hunt. During the search operation, the patrol team found three pieces of human remains probably of pilots/co-pilots,  two pieces of leather shoes, one MMG bullet, four pieces of plane metal.  

Some of the patrol team members sustained minor  injuries due to heavy snow fall,  inclement weather and rough topography  but  the patrol team conducted  the task successfully. It is presume that the plane belongs to USA which might have crashed during World War-II while passing through “HUMP” route. HUMP route was being used by allied group to maintain their troops in China.

The Patrol team for Lulam Gika was flagged of by J Pertin, ADC, amidst huge gathering at Chayangtajo on  March 16.

Meanwhile,  the Indian Army in collaboration with Civil Administration Chayangtajo under operation Samaritan conducted 10-day free Medical Camp, Health and Sanitation campaign, Games & Sports and awareness on legal issues etc  which ended on March 24. All together 476 patients from various villages were benefitted. J. Pertin, ADC appealed the people to respect the law and not to misuse their local weapons, arms and ammunition etc. meant for protection and other purposes. He precisely explained about provisions of protection of women against Domestic Violence Act, 2005  and Prevention of Damages against Public Property Act. He also appealed them to follow Right of Way at least 6 meters away on both sides of the road.

Capt. SB Sikarwar, MO, gave the tips as to how to remain healthy, do away from waterborne diseases like Malaria, Cholera etc. He urged them to pay emphasis on Small Family System & Child Care.

Chapo Yangfo, Advocate also spoke on the occasion about murder, rape, robbery, extortion etc. and its legal implications. The other highlights of the programme were games and sports competitions, Seminars, Drawing Competition etc.  DIPRO

 

 

Workshop to give new thrust to rubber cultivation

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: With the GoAP attaching top priority to rubber and tea cultivation by allotting Rs 10 crore and Rs 5 crore in 2013-14 Budget for the purpose, Rubber Board of India chairperson Sheela Thomas is expected to arrive here on her maiden three-day visit to the state.

She would attend the first ever awareness workshop on rubber cultivation, being organized by trade & commerce department in collaboration with the agro gramin united (agun) on April 7 next.

Accompanied by a technical team including joint commissioner (Rubber production) M N Gopinath, Thomas, invited by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, would spell out the secret behind the success of high yielding rubber in Kerala and Tripura, said agun chairman Likha Maj, who had visited Kotayam recently on a study tour to know more about rubber.Block cultivation is the key behind the success of the cash crop as propagated by the RBI with the formula of 50% funding by the RBI, 40% by the state government and 10% contribution by the farmers.   

Thomas during her meeting with the chief minister is likely to take up the block cultivation formula adopted by the RBI in other parts of the country to ensure cent percent success, Maj said.

Rubber could trigger a new movement among the rural masses in providing a decent livelihood while facilitating the GoAP in containing unemployment problem in the state, said Maj, who through agun, had launched  an agri-horticulture movement a decade ago to tap state’s vast potential.

 

 

Laparoscopic camp at PHC Nampong

CHANGLANG, Mar 25: The 2nd Phase of Free Laparoscopic Camp organized by the District Health Society, Changlang was held at PHC Nampong from 20th to 23rd March. The team of experts led by Dr. Dilip Dutta, Gynaecologist, Dr. K.Mossang, MO (LSAS trained) and OT team performed the Laparoscopic Ligation on 105 beneficiaries at PHC Nampong.

Dr. R. Krishnan, MO  incharge. Dr (Mrs) C C Ngemu, MO and Dr. Achu Chena, MO PHC Nampong did the general health check up of the beneficiaries. All the 21 medical staff of PHC Nampong was engaged to carry out the different activities as designated.

The laboratory check up were done free of cost by the Laboratory Technicians of PHC Nampong and CHC Jairampur.

The MTP were conducted on 4 pregnant women at First Trimester and simultaneously Laparoscopic Ligation were done to all the women.

The 8 Seva Dal members of Nampong voluntarily rendered their services in shifting the operated beneficiaries from the OT to the wards.

The medicines and consumables were distributed free of cost to all the beneficiaries. 4th Assam Rifles also extended cooperation for successful conduct of the  camp.

 

 

World TB Day observed

CHANGLANG, Mar 25: “World TB Day-2013” was observed in Rang Frah Govt. College, Changlang on March 24 in a befitting manner. Banner highlighting the Slogan like “Stop TB in my lifetime – We want zero TB deaths along with DOTS posters and hand notes were displayed at college auditorium of Rang Frah Govt. College, Changlang for public awareness regarding TB on the occasion.

Addressing a community meeting held on this occasion at Rang Frah Govt. College, Changlang, Dr. (Mrs.) M. Khimhun, DPO (RNTCP) shared her view regarding the implementation of DOTS and also highlighted  through power point presentation the cause and cure of TB disease. She also appeals to the teachers and college students to work with dedication and play a proactive role in TB control and create awareness among the general public about the free availability of sputum examination & free availability of drugs at all the PHIs. She also appraised the gathering about the emergence of MDR-TB and the facilities given by the Govt. for treatment of MDR cases. P. G. Tago, Associate Professor & Incharge Red Ribbon Society, RFGC, explained the purpose of the meeting.

Kimin rallies against TB

The World TB Day was yesterday observed at Kimin town by District Health Society (RNTCP), Papumpare District in collaboration with State Health Society (RNTCP), Naharlagun,

The day was marked by organizing a TB awareness procession starting from APP Check Gate, to Multipurpose Community Hall. The TB awareness procession was flagged off by Bamang Yayu, ZPM in presence of S. Lowang, EAC (Kimin), Dr. B. Tada, Jt. DHS (TB), Dr. M. Nyori, DDHS (TB), Dr. M. Umpo, Microbiologist, IRL Naharlagun, Dr. H. Tayo, DTO i/c, Dr. T. Aruna, MO i/c CHC Kimin, Charu Tapiyo, ASM Chairman, ITBP Jawans, Staffs of State TB Cell, District TB Cell, CHC Kimin, Self Help Group leaders, ASHA and general Public.

Dr. B. Tada, Jt. DHS (TB) gave brief presentation about Tuberculosis and urged people present to take advantage of DMC (Kimin) for diagnosis of TB instead of going to Lakimpur/ Naharlagun. Appreciating the public participation, he stressed to the public to be more aware of Tuberculosis and also to take complete course (DOTS). Dr. Mika Umpo, (IRL Microbiologist) demonstrated the way TB spreads and informed about how to control and seek treatment. He also made the public aware that there is two sites for MDR TB Patient care in Arunachal Pradesh, one at Naharlagun and one at Pasighat. Dr H. Tayo, DTO i/c called upon the public to take Tuberculosis seriously as there is emergence of MDR TB and the number of such patients are increasing which is a grave concern. He also appealed the public to take sputum test at DMC for free of cost and to have DOTS for TB patients on free of cost. This was followed by interaction with TB cured patients and general public. The theme of this year celebration was “Stop TB in my life time, we want zero TB deaths”.

World TB day

On the occasion of World TB Day and with the theme, “stop TB in my life time”, health awareness programme and sensitization meeting was organized in the Temple and Office Complex of Tibetan Refugee Settlement Camp, Tezu Circle yesterday. The programme was attended among other by  Thupten Tsering, Tibetan Settlement Officer, Tezu

Dr. U.K.Nath District Programme Officer, RNTCP summed up the objective as educating the people about Tuberculosis as a curable and preventable disease. Dr. Nath in the meeting appealed to the TB patients to take full advantage of the ongoing DOTS under the Revised National TB Control Programme.

Representing the district health society Dr. N. Rika DRCHO, Dr. P.K.Saikia Medical Superintendent, Dr. J. Ado DPO (District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit) delivered concise speech on World TB Day and spoke on the magnitude of Tuberculosis and its impact in India’s socio-economic scenario. Apart from general public, cured TB Patients, representative from Tibetan Medicine, five Camp leaders, DOT Providers, Government employees, students, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers were present. Caps were distributed to all the participants present in the meeting. DOTS posters were displayed in places of public gatherings and Caps and sweet packets were distributed to indoor TB Patients.(DIPRO)

Training for rural women of Siyum

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: The Catholic Mission, Siyum under Upper Subansiri district started three months intensive tailoring course for rural women at Siyum from today.  Father Sijo Chacko, Principal of St. Vincent Pallotti School, Siyum inaugurated the course and exhorted the trainees to use their energy positively for different skills which will enable them to earn a better livelihood.

He underlined the importance of learning and developing various skills and said that the training will equip the women to generate income and be more self reliant in day to day management of household expenses.    Sr. Josin, the area coordinator of IDEA, and the organizer of the training programme said that the course is aimed to generate various income generation opportunities for the rural women folk and stressed that training will be a catalyst of change and empowerment in the life of village women. 18 women trainees from the locality are being trained in this course. The course includes basic sewing, cutting, garment design, ethnic wear weaving   and embroidery.  The training programme is conducted under the aegis of the social initiative cell of the catholic mission, Siyum.

 

 

Workshop on reading habit  for children

CHANGLANG, MAR 25 : A month long workshop on Reading Habits amongst the school children being organized at District Library Changlang. On inaugural day on  March 1  around 600 students from various school of Changlang, teachers and parents participated in the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion S.S. Choudhury, SDO(HQ), emphasized on imparting quality education of the students for their bright future. Further, Choudhury advised the students to keep themselves update by availing  the benefit of library. He also appealed the parents to send their children to Library so that can develop reading habit for knowledge and wisdom.                          

The District Library & Information Officer Changlang, G. S. Awasthi, explained the aims and objectives of the workshop. He said, the workshop is one step forward to inculcate reading habits and use of the Library for their all round development.

 

 

IMT cum buyers and sellers meet held

DAPORIJO, Mar 25: The DIC, Daporijo has successfully conducted a  week-long Industrial Management Training (IMT) cum Buyers & Sellers Meet from March 20  to 25.

In the IMT cum Buyers & Sellers Meet more than 60 participants from the 5 Assembly Constituency were participated. Tuli Basar, DDI Daporijo welcomed all participants and guest faculties and highlight the importance of IMT cum Buyers & Sellers.

Minto Siga, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology & Weight & Measure, Jumni Ligu, Labour & Employment Officer, Dr. B. Pal, District Research Officer, Tuli Basar, Deputy Director of Industries, and John Rai, Economic Investigator were the resource persons of the programme.

S. Timba, District Planning Officer Daporijo distributed certificates to all participants and advised them to practically use the knowledge gained in the  week-long programme.

 

 

Don’t grant bail to accused: NWS

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: The Neelam Welfare Society (NWS) in its executive body meeting held today has taken exception to the section of media house for publishing name of the family member of Joram rape case victim. Society has condemned such act of media house.

The NWS has requested Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police Lower Subansiri district to immediately arrest the wife of the alleged accused for her part in the whole episode.

Further they appealed to the district magistrate not to grant bail to the accused as it rarest of the rare criminal act which needs to be exemplary punished. Marde hails govt. for approving Independent ADC Hq

ITANAGAR, Mar 25:  Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Takar Marde today hailed the state government for approving to upgrade Dumporijo EAC headquarter to independent ADC headquarter which will be at Kora-Ne  near Digbak village.  Marde further hoped that up-gradation will immensely benefitted to the people of circle and district as whole.

 

 

DDSE clarifies

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: There is no question of misuse of SSA fund by increasing the total enrollment of number of students in West Siang district, said West Siang district deputy director of school education today.

Reacting to a news items issued by Adi Students Union, Itanagar and published in this daily on March 25 under the headline “Union claims irregularities in Mid-Day Meal scheme,” the DDSE  today clarified that there are  552 schools in the district   (EGS/community schools -197, primary -255 and Upper Primary – 100). Terming the news item baseless and unauthentic, the DDSE further clarified that total enrollment in primary section for the session 2012-13 is 20,950, out of which 20,819 are approved and in Upper Primary it is 8038 and 7223 approved in the district and the  Govt has sanctioned fund accordingly.

 

 

‘Stop earth cutting’

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: Barapani Welfare Committee (BWC) in a letter to  Capital Complex deputy commissioner  appealed him to stop earth cutting at the proposed  Gandhi colony above the Barapani colony by some persons. It said that ongoing earth cutting be stopped till the erection of protection wall for the safety of the people living in lower areas. The BWC in its letter further said that the people of  Lower Barapani area are living with constant  fear since the beginning of earth cutting as it may  cause landslide during rainy season.

 

 

8 houses gutted

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: At least eight houses were gutted down in a fire mishap at Dumporijo town around 4 am today. This was informed by the Dumporijo Bazaar Welfare Society in a release.

The Society appealed to the concerned authority to provide immediate relief to the fire victims.

Expressing concern over the repeated fire mishap and non-availability of fire station, the Society also appealed to the authorities to take immediate step for setting up of a fire station at Dumporijo town.

Increase seats of English department

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to pen down my long felt grievances before the eye of Education minister and head of Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh.

  English is our state’s official language. It is a universal language & has no limited scope. It has scope beyond the international boundary across the world. But the authority of Rajiv Gandhi University is little bit neglecting the importance of this subject/language. If the seats of Hindi, which also falls under the Department of language can be raise to 45 then why not English’s?. Why English is marginalize to 40 seats only? What is the problem in balancing the seat? Are the govt. & the RGU authority trying to replace the official language of state to Hindi by giving more seats to Hindi? I am not against department of Hindi and do understand its vital role in the state. But I do strongly protest for the biasness in seat allotment due to which our state’s official language is marginalized. As it is our official language, majority aspire to do further study in this field but there is very few seat provided in our lone University. Out of 40 seats only 24 seats are reserved for ST (60%). Where shall the students go for further study? If we cannot compete in our jungle state then how can we be in metropolitan city to grab a seat?

 Therefore I earnestly request the government & the authority of RGU to look into the matter sincerely & frame a solution to lessen our grievances.

What is delaying Trans-Arunachal highway project?

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to highlight few words regarding the ongoing Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) project. The two lane Trans-Arunachal Highway project which was announced by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on 31st January, 2008 on his maiden visit to the State is scheduled to be completed by June, 2016. The road which starts from Tawang in Western Arunachal Pradesh will connect Kanubari in Eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Since its announcement made in 2008 to till date it has already been passed 5(five) years and so far the work done is very little i.e. surveying and measurement of Highway land affected part only. So, my question to the concerned authority and State Govt, is that, when will the rest of the works start? And will the Trans-Arunachal Highway project be able to complete by 2016?

If things go on in the same speed then surely this long awaited dream of having Trans- Arunachal Highway by the people of the State will have to wait for more than a decade. The said project is one of the most important ongoing projects of the State, but why the people of the State are not paying interest in this regard? Why they don’t pressurize the State Govt, to expedite the ongoing project? The reason for delaying of the said work is either the State Govt, is not pursuing the matter to the Center for early completion of the said project or the Center Govt, is reluctant to work for our State.

My sole aim of writing this piece of article is to awake the State Govt, as well as the people of the State about ongoing said project because many a times it so happened that the State Govt, fails to fulfill the demand of the common people because no one raises voice against such delay. We cannot expect any developmental activities to take place in the State until & unless there is well-knit road connectivity to all the districts. Besides, apart from road transport system there is no other substitute means of transport like water transport, railways, airways and so on in our State.

As per the provision of part-1 of the "LAND COMPENSATION ACT 1973"provides that compensation can be claimed by residents who own and occupy property that has been reduced in value by physical factors such as caused by public works.

Hence, I on behalf of the entire Land Affected owner in the State would like to request the concerned authority and State Govt, to disburse land compensation to those land affected owners as early as possible and expedite the ongoing project. We hope that very soon we will have proper road connectivity to all the districts in the State.

Yobin’s deserve ST

Dear Editor,

It is very much surprising to know that the tribe “YOBIN” is new to the ears of many Arunachalee People. Yes, it may be so because this tribe is small in number and have been residing in a very remote of corner of Arunachal Pradesh at Vijaynagar which is locally called Dawodi. One has to walk five days to reach from the nearest town Miao.

However this tribe Yobin or Lisu is not a new to many of us especially to me, as per my knowledge they are one of the aboriginal tribe dwelling in Vijaynagar since time immemorial. Yobins or Lisus were there even before India got Independence from the British rule.

Amazingly! Yet true!! One of the descendent of Yobins named Akhiya went down from Dawodi which is now called vijaynagar to get a permit from the then  British officer(DC) Lakhimpur, Dated,23/04/1942(document proof).But it is very unfortunate for the Yobins that they are told to have migrated to Dawodi(now vijaynagar) around 1960s.

After knowing all the fact about ‘Yobin’ and the problems they have been facing of being excluded or neglected as one of the Indigenous tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, it saddened my heart and forced me to bring out this article.

Despite knowing that the Yobins are one of our brother tribe, their outcry is never heeded nor heard. I am of the view that among many their demand for ST is genuine and legitimate. Seeing the current situation I am very much hurt to say that Yobins are still categorized with the settlers in Vijayanagar like Gorkhas or like of the refugees. I would like to appeal everyone who knows and have knowledge about Yobins to come out and support to this small and helpless tribe.

Harassment of consumers

Dear Editor,

Now a day’s LPG Gas Agency of Hapoli is asking for filling up of one new form at the time of refilling or while getting new connection. At this, I would like to bring to the attention of the district administration towards the problem being faced by the common public in filling that form. In the new form, for identify verification, common public are being asked to get sign of an Advocate.

I do not understand on what basis and logic this norm has been made. Usually identity verification is made by the panchayat leader for villager, HOD for govt. servant and Bazaar committee for the businessman.

How an advocate can verify the person, who do not know him/her at all. But above mention people can easily verify the identity of people, because they regularly interact with them. Besides from where the poor villagers will find an advocate?

The bad part of this story is that some advocate are demanding Rs 500 to Rs 1000 as their fee from innocent and poor public for putting just one sign on that form.

Therefore I appeal to the district administration kindly rectify this problem soon.  If can’t, then please appoint one Govt. Advocate for every area and strictly instruct them not to demand any kind of fee.

Koloriang needs a facelift

 Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of concerned MLA and Panchayat leaders of kurung kumey District towards the pathetic condition of District Headquarter Koloriang.

As a layman, I don’t know how much development funds was pump in or allocated for infrastructural development of Koloriang. But one glance at District Headquater, tell us how development has taken back seat. You go to any department it screams loud for attention and some development work.

Most of the government employees are working their duty from out of station. The only valid reason being the lack of govt. quarters and scarcity of accommodation. It is worth mentioning here that the dilapidated circuit house is also always occupied by some big contractors/public leaders in absence of lack of accommodation.

Most important building like DC office is also in very bad shape, and if timely renovation or new building is not constructed soon, it is generally fear that it will collapse soon. And the plight of Koloriang denizen is such that they have to buy one match box for Rs.3/-(three) and it’s no wonder, such price rise is really hitting hard upon poor people who are already deprived of so many things.  It is my earnest request to the concerned elected representative to take the matter seriously and do some face lift work of koloriang (Headquarter), before it turn to semblance.

Sri Lanka flays UN resolution

The resolution against Sri Lanka adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council recently is potentially damaging the regional relationships and South Asian Solidarity, Special Envoy for Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said.

Expressing strong opposition against the resolution 22/1 on Promoting reconciliation and accountability in Sri Lanka, the Minister noted that the US sponsored resolution is based on the Resolution 19/2 of 2012 which was not recognized by Sri Lanka.

Speaking against the resolution that welcomed the report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Minister pointed out that although the earlier resolution calls for the High Commissioner and relevant special procedures mandate holders to consult and concur with the Sri Lankan government on implementing measures recommended by the resolution, the Office of the High Commissioner prepared its report recommending measures without consulting the government.

The High Commissioner's report presented to the Council on March 20 is flawed and contains factual inaccuracies, the Minister said adding that the report has exceeded the mandate given by the UNHRC.

In conclusion, the Minister stressed that those genuinely concerned on the future well-being of Sri Lanka's people should encourage the country in its ongoing reconciliation rather than single it out for disproportionate attention in the Council.
